It has been stressed that ensuring gender equality and promoting women’s well-being in all facets of life is paramount for building prosperous economies and fostering a healthy planet.

The assertion was made by the Nigeria Country Office of the United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF) as it prepares to celebrate the 2024 edition of International Women’s Day (IWD) on the 8th of March.

According to UNICEF, in Nigeria, evidence shows that women’s empowerment through education, knowledge of health, participation in decision-making, can lead to improved health outcomes for women and children.

International Women’s Day (IWD) on March 8 highlights the achievements of women and promotes women’s rights worldwide.

The Day is recognized as a national holiday in numerous countries as it has been sponsored by the United Nations (UN) since 1975.

In cognizance of the above, UNICEF Bauchi field office, with support from a mix of generous donors, invested in the Mama2Mama initiative to create demand for health services in the region.

To commemorate the IWD 2024, UNICEF, Bauchi Field Office is organising a media dialogue to highlight the impactful strides made by the mama2mama initiative.

The initiative has improved health outcomes in the Field Office region, in Gombe, Bauchi, and Taraba states.

Through the dialogue, UNICEF aims to advocate for continued investment in women to advance positive social change stressing that, “It’s that time of the year again, when we talk all about the backbone of community advancement – Women.”

The media dialogue is scheduled to be held at the Evolution Hotel, Gombe, Gombe State with an in-house brainstorming on 6th and 7th March 2024.
