Oyo to host ODU’A trade fair

The Oyo State government has disclosed its readiness to host a joint Odua Trade Fair organised by Osun, Ogun, Ondo, Oyo, and Ekiti states in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

The government revealed that it would also launch a farmers market to foster entrepreneurship in the South-West region.

Commissioner for Trade, Industry, Investment and Cooperatives, Adeniyi Adebisi made this known on Wednesday, during a stakeholders’ meeting on ODU’A International Trade fair, 2024, held at the Trade Fair Complex, EXPOYO, in Ibadan.

He said the farmers market would provide an avenue for farmers to sell their produce at affordable prices, and also empower them economically, emphasising the need to support local farmers and as well promote agricultural development in Oyo State and its environs.

Adebisi also commended Governor Seyi Makinde for revitalising trade fairs in the state, citing the success of the recent Oyo State International Trade Fair, EXPOYO, 2024.

Also speaking, the Chairman, Organising Committee, ODU’A International Trade Fair 2024, Kola Akosile, disclosed that the theme of the Trade Fair is “Harnessing Food Security Systems and Natural Resources for Sustainable Development and Wealth Creation”.

According to him, the fair which was organised by the Odu’a Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines, and Agriculture, would take place from October 18 to 29, 2024 on the Trade Fair ground, EXPOYO, Sango, Ibadan.

He said the fair would also showcase the state’s agricultural prowess, with a focus on food security and natural resources in the South-West region to create wealth and promote sustainable development, adding that the 10-day event would also feature business exhibitions, networking, and free Amala for 10 days.

He said: “Expected participants include100 to 150 exhibitors and thousands of visitors from the six South-West states comprising Oyo, Ekiti, Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, and Osun.

“Products and services to be showcased would include agric and agro-allied products, manufactured goods, electronics, and services from agencies like the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), and the Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON).”
