Oronsaye report: Be careful of looming job losses in federal civil service – Shehu Sani

2 min read

Former Kaduna Senator, Shehu Sani, has urged President Bola Tinubu to be cautious about the full implementation of the Oronsaye report, in the aspect where thousands of federal civil servants are likely to lose their jobs.

Recall that Tinubu, on Monday, ordered the full implementation of the report of the Presidential Committee on the Rationalisation and Restructuring of Federal Government Parastatals, Commissions, and Agencies, headed by retired accountant Stephen Oronsaye.

Former President Goodluck Jonathan inaugurated the committee in 2012, and the recommendations of the committee are popularly known as the Oronsaye report.

Reacting to the development which has become the talking point for Nigerians, Sani also commended the President about the order, saying it would cost the cost of governance and harmonise federal ministries, departments and agencies.

Sani made this known in a post on his X account on Monday night, where he cautioned that job losses among thousands of federal civil servants are imminent.

He wrote, “The Oronsaye report has gathered dust for over a decade. It’s commendable that now it shall see the light of the day.

“This is a significant step towards cutting the cost of governance and harmonising federal MDAs. But care should be taken in that aspect where thousands of Federal Civil servants will lose their jobs.”

It was reported that that the 800-page report, if implemented, will cause no fewer than 102 heads of agencies and parastatals to lose their jobs.
