FG develops new policies to reposition civil service

Federal Government has developed new policies and guidelines to reposition public service, embed excellence, integrity, and accountability at the heart of service delivery in the country.

Head of Service of the Federation, Mrs Didi Walson-Jack speaking at the validation of the documents on Friday, said the validation of the Federal Civil Service policies and guidelines, marked a collective journey to redefine the ethos of public service delivery in Nigeria.

The event organised as part of programmes marking 100 days in the office of Walson-Jack on assumption of office as Head of Civil Service of the Federation, was attended by Mr Wale Edun, Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of Economy, Permanent Secretaries among other public officials.

She said this would set the stage for a Civil Service that is professional and efficient, globally competitive, and responsive to the aspirations of all Nigerians.

She listed the four transformative policies and guidelines to include, Rewards and Recognition Policy and Guidelines; Incentives and Consequence Management Policy and Guidelines; Mentoring Framework, and the Protocol on the Use of Federal Government Secretariat.

“This validation exercise exemplifies our unwavering commitment to charting a bold and transformative course for the Civil Service, laying a solid foundation for sustained progress and impactful outcomes.

“Validating these policies and guidelines is a giant stride towards a Civil Service that embodies the highest standards of professionalism, accountability, and service delivery. This is not just a vision but a call to action,” she said.

Walson-Jack explained that these policies are integral to the Public Service Rules 2021 and the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan 2025 (FCSSIP-25), each is strategically aligned with the reform pillars outlined in these frameworks, ensuring coherence, sustainability, and measurable impact.

The Head of Service while congratulating the newly promoted directors, said their elevation highlighted the values of diligence, dedication, and professionalism that define exemplary public service.

Speaking also at the event was Mr Wale Edun, Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of Economy, who acknowledged the significant role workers in the Federation Civil Service play in the implementation of government policies.

He noted that the success of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration is hinged on the determination of the civil servants to faithfully implement the policies of the government, stressing that the President has in the last 18 months undertaken bold reforms to lay a solid foundation for the nation’s economic development.

Edun admitted that the reforms might have brought initial pain but noted that the era of fleecing the country through subsidies was over. He added that the real change has come and that Nigeria I now in the part of sustainable development.

He commended Walson-Jack for her remarkable achievements within the shortest period she served in the office.

“I am here to congratulate the Head of service for not just achieving 100 days but using that period as an opportunity to put across to civil servants the agenda of 4 transformative document to inspire the workers. ”

Edun recommended the policies for the workers, adding that Nigerian civil servants were playing a critical role in President Bola Tinubu’s success in his macroeconomic reforms to reduce poverty and create employment among others in Nigeria.

“I commend this agenda to every public servant and not just that, I want to give you an insight as to how critical your role, and transformation from what you are now.
