[BREAKING] Rivers guber: Supreme Court affirms Gov Fubara’s election

The Supreme Court on Thursday, affirmed the election of Siminalayi Fubara of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as Rivers Governor.

In the same vein, the apex court dismissed the appeal filed by Muhammad Sani Yahaya of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) against the election of Taraba Governor Agbu Kefas.

A five-member panel of Justices on the court held in the case of Rivers state that, the appeal by Tonye Cole of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was unmeritorious.

In the lead judgment, Justice Ibrahim Saulawa held that Cole and the APC failed to prove their case with sufficient evidence.

Justice Saulawa resolved all the four issues identified for determination in the appeal against the appellants’.

In the case of Taraba state, the Supreme Court dismissed the appeal filed by Yahaya and his party against the election of Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba state.

A five-member panel of the court held in a unanimous judgment that the NNPP and its candidate failed to establish their case that Kefas was not elected by majority of valid votes.

Justice Mohammed Lawal Garba, who read the lead judgment, held that the Court of Appeal was right to have easily dismissed the appeal on grounds of incomplete records of appeal and affirmed the judgment of the Court of Appeal affirming Kefas’ election.
