April Fool: Davido debunks arrest rumours

Afrobeats superstar singer, David Adeleke aka. Davido has debunked rumours that alleged he was arrested while on a music tour in East Africa on April 1st, 2024.

The singer said it was important for him to react to the false rumours that circulated on various online sources on April 1st after he got a barrage of calls from fans and well wishers confirming his safety.

He, however, affirmed that throughout his career, he has never been arrested by anyone in any country for any crime in the world.

Reports emanated from various online sources on Monday, April 1st, 2024, alleging that the singer was arrested in East Africa.

Davido, reacting in a statement released via his X handle on Tuesday, confirmed that he was not arrested and explained that contrary to reports, he had a successful tour in Kenya and Uganda, and he has now returned to Nigeria.

In the statement tagged ‘Setting record straight on false arrest report’, the singer vehemently condemned the rumours and called it extremely irresponsible regardless of the light of ‘April Fools’ celebration.

He then vowed to take legal action against the fabricators of the rumours.

The statement reads in part: “I find the fabrication of allegations of such international crimes extremely irresponsible regardless of the light of ‘April Fools’, and my lawyer is seeking legal recourse against the media parties responsible for generating this misinformation.”
